Nowon-gu Launches Initiative to Train Resident Technicians
Secured 120 Million KRW Seoul Budget to Promote Training of Resident Technicians (Social Economy)... Two Projects (Our Neighborhood Home Care, Our Neighborhood Mutual Care) Education and Development into Local Care Management Companies After Training
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Nowon-gu (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) is launching a program to train resident technicians through education that teaches technologies immediately applicable in daily life.
This education covers simple but useful life services such as home repairs and care services, which can foster relationships through collaboration among residents and create local jobs.
The targeted skills are two highly practical areas: small-scale home repairs (Uri Dongnae Home Care) and care services (Uri Dongnae Seoro Care). Training is outsourced to specialized institutions. The project to train resident technicians in these two fields was submitted to the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s “2020 Resident Technician School Project,” securing 120 million KRW in city funding.
Specifically, the home repair (Uri Dongnae Home Care) education is conducted at the Seoul Northern Technical Education Center for 20 trainees. It includes a total of 12 sessions covering theory and practice such as installing lighting fixtures, lighting equipment construction, faucets, and basic architectural painting theory.
After the home repair training, on-site practice is conducted. All trainees participate in residential environment improvement service practice, and a selected group of graduates undergoes an advanced course separately.
The care (Uri Dongnae Seoro Care) education is also conducted for 20 trainees, covering a total of 12 sessions including theory and practice on community care and understanding care systems, understanding the five major diseases, and daily care such as organizing and storage.
The education is conducted by the Nowon Social Economy Support Center, which also operates advanced courses by topic after the basic education. Through the Resident Technician School, the program focuses on care issues actually needed by residents in the community and trains care personnel at the field level in cooperation with social economy enterprises.
After completing the education, trainees have opportunities to apply the knowledge and skills learned through connections with the district’s Hope Welfare Support Team and Care SOS Centers.
Local related business owners, social economy enterprises, cooperatives, and other community members form and operate a daily convenience service task force, playing a central role in providing local life services.
