Conservative Group Reports 40,000 Attendees for Gaecheonjeol Rally... Police Issue "Limited Ban Notice"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] Conservative groups that organized the August 15 rally, which triggered the resurgence of COVID-19, have reported plans to hold a large-scale rally with around 40,000 participants in downtown Seoul on October 3, National Foundation Day. However, the police have issued a 'limited ban' on the event.
According to the police on the 4th, the Liberty Solidarity reported rallies of 2,000 people each at four locations including Gwanghwamun Square and near Gyeongbokgung Station. The 'Ten Million Innocent Release Headquarters' under the Our Republican Party reported a rally of 30,000 people near Sejong-ro and Hyoja Security Center to the Jongno Police Station in Seoul.
The Taegeukgi Revolution National Movement Headquarters (Gukbon) also reported plans to hold a rally of several thousand people near Euljiro 1(il)-ga Station in Jung-gu to the Namdaemun Police Station in Seoul.
The police issued a limited ban on all these groups' rally reports on the same day. A police official explained, "Since the COVID-19 social distancing level 2.5 has been extended for another week and the risk of infectious disease remains, it was notified that if the current crisis alert level is maintained a month later, the rallies cannot be held."

Earlier, the Seoul Metropolitan Government has been enforcing a complete ban on gatherings of 10 or more people throughout Seoul since the 21st of last month, in accordance with the Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Act.
