[Breaking] "We Have Accepted the Demands of the Medical Association, a Profit Group," Health and Medical Workers' Union Protests
[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] The National Health and Medical Industry Labor Union (Health and Medical Labor Union) held a press conference at the fountain in front of the Blue House on the 4th, strongly condemning the government, the ruling party, and the Korea Medical Association (KMA) for abandoning public healthcare reform after secret negotiations.
The Health and Medical Labor Union criticized the government, saying, "While discussing public healthcare policies directly related to citizens' health and safety, citizens were excluded and the demands of the interest group, the medical association, were accommodated."
They pointed out, "The government has neglected the private-centered medical system, turning doctors into a group that boldly strikes even during the COVID-19 crisis and refuses to back down regardless of any negotiation proposals."
They also condemned the medical community, stating, "The medical association not only continued unethical collective work stoppages for their vested interests, disregarding citizens' safety, but also caused the collapse of discussions on medical publicness."
