Network Expansion to the United States and China by 2022
[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-kyu Lee] Jin-su Lee, CEO of KakaoPage, announced that KakaoPage's annual transaction volume this year is expected to reach 500 billion KRW. He also set a goal to expand the KakaoPage platform network across the United States, China, and Southeast Asia by 2022.
On the 3rd, KakaoPage attended 'APOS 2020,' an event sharing the latest outlooks and corporate visions in the media content industry, and announced KakaoPage's achievements and vision on the 4th. APOS is an event where industry leaders representing various countries gather to share trends, forecasts, and insights in media, telecommunications, and content industries. This year, due to the impact of COVID-19, the event was held online. KakaoPage partnered with Disney, Google, Discovery, NHK, Sony Pictures, Amazon Prime, and others.
At the session held the previous day, CEO Lee shared a discussion with Vivek Couto, founder of Media Partners Asia, under the theme of "Innovation in Story Entertainment." At this session, CEO Lee projected that KakaoPage, celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, will achieve an annual transaction volume of 500 billion KRW. He also revealed that Piccoma in Japan ranked number one in the market last month for both traffic and sales for the first time. KakaoPage and Piccoma are expected to reach over 1 trillion KRW in annual transaction volume combined in Korea and Japan, where they hold the number one market positions.
KakaoPage also revealed its vision as a story entertainment company. The plan is to provide a global serialization platform where storytellers worldwide can monetize their works, focusing on the Korean and Japanese markets. Furthermore, through the numerous verified original stories secured this way, KakaoPage aims to become the most influential partner for secondary industry partners such as films, dramas, and games.

To achieve this, KakaoPage stated it will spare no investment to expand its platform network across the United States, China, and Southeast Asia by 2022. CEO Lee said, "Super intellectual properties (IPs) like Harry Potter, One Piece, and Marvel will be born through our webtoon platform and will form global fandoms even faster. In this process, we can create countless business opportunities together with global media partners."
