Victory in Anti-Japanese War, "Contributing to the Protection of World Peace"
[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Jo Young-shin] On the 3rd, marking the 75th anniversary of China's victory in the Anti-Japanese War, President Xi Jinping and other top Chinese leaders held a wreath-laying ceremony at the Chinese People's Anti-Japanese War Memorial Hall in Beijing.
According to state-run China Central Television (CCTV) on the 3rd, the event was attended by President Xi, all members of the Standing Committee, Vice President Wang Qishan, and the entire top leadership of China.
President Xi attended the wreath-laying ceremony in person for the first time in six years since the 69th anniversary of the victory in the Anti-Japanese War in 2014.
President Xi's attendance at the wreath-laying ceremony amid the COVID-19 pandemic is interpreted as a reflection of the worsening China-Japan relations amid the US-China conflict.
Chinese Communist Party's official newspaper, the People's Daily, and other Chinese state media also aired special reports related to the 75th anniversary of the victory in the Anti-Japanese War on the same day.
The People's Daily dedicated an entire third page to a special article.
In a commentary titled "Engrave History and Strive Forward," the People's Daily emphasized, "The martyrs carried out the arduous Anti-Japanese War over 14 years and achieved a great victory," adding, "This was China's first complete victory against foreign invading forces."
