Interpark Gardening Category Sales Up 32% Over 3 Months
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Due to the prolonged impact of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), outdoor activities have significantly decreased, leading to the rise of 'Plantterior' (plant interior design) as people seek to bring the vitality of nature indoors for emotional stability. Many are placing and tending to potted plants throughout their homes or utilizing small spaces as vegetable gardens.
According to Interpark on the 3rd, sales in the entire gardening category increased by 32% from June to August compared to the previous year. By item, sales of seedlings and saplings and soil rose by 92% and 88%, respectively. Pots increased by 48%, and other gardening supplies such as gravel and plant nutrients grew by 53%. Additionally, sales of interior accessories like vases and garden items such as artificial turf and indoor fountains increased by 50% and 26%, respectively.
In response, Interpark is currently holding the 'Greenery House Special Exhibition' reflecting customers' demand for home gardening. It offers various plants easy for beginners to grow, along with vases, pots, seeds, soil, gravel, and other gardening supplies, all at up to 20% discounted prices.

Gu Yu-gyeong, Interpark's horticulture category MD, explained, "In the past, the purpose of home gardening focused on preventing fine dust and purifying the air, but recently, more people are raising companion plants to gain psychological comfort."
