Homeplus Opens Korea's First Village Enterprise Win-Win Shop
Collaboration Between Ministry of the Interior and Safety and Gwangju City
First Launch at Gwangju Gyelim Branch
[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] Homeplus announced on the 3rd that it will open Korea's first Village Enterprise Win-Win Shop at Gyerim Branch in Gwangju in collaboration with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and Gwangju Metropolitan City.
The Village Enterprise Win-Win Shop was established to secure stable sales channels for village enterprise products and to enhance the village enterprise brand. The name Win-Win Shop carries a double meaning of ‘shop’ and ‘raising the value of coexistence through ethical consumption (#).’
Homeplus plans to set up a dedicated store for the Village Enterprise Win-Win Shop in the mall space on the first floor of the Gyerim Branch in Gwangju, which has excellent customer accessibility, while supporting the discovery of outstanding products and marketing channels to help strengthen the competitiveness of village enterprises themselves.
At Korea's first Village Enterprise Win-Win Shop, customers can find unique products such as ‘Owl Handicrafts,’ inspired by the ‘symbol of luck’ Eurasian eagle-owl inhabiting Mudeungsan Mountain in Gwangju, and ‘Chilbo Jewelry,’ realized in the beautiful colors of ‘Chilbo,’ a traditional Korean craft technique.
In addition, 64 village enterprises in Gwangju are participating, showcasing about 50 village enterprise products including food items such as plum extract, fruit syrup, seaweed chips, tofu, cookies, bread, coffee, and products such as Chilbo jewelry, cutting boards, bowls, wooden accessories, indoor slippers, children's masks, and floral supplies, aiming to secure local customers.
Homeplus plans to open the second store at Wonju Branch in Gangwon Province in mid-this month and expand the Village Enterprise Win-Win Shop by selecting local governments to participate in next year's project.
Im Ilsun, CEO of Homeplus, said, “We are very pleased to introduce Korea's first Village Enterprise Win-Win Shop at Homeplus,” and added, “We will continue to actively practice coexistence and cooperation to revitalize the local economy.”
