According to the Jeju Regional Meteorological Administration on the 2nd, as of 12 PM that day, Typhoon 'Maysak' is moving northward at a speed of 23 km/h about 240 km south of Seogwipo.
The typhoon has a central pressure of 945 hectopascals (hPa) and a maximum wind speed of 45 m/s, indicating it is very strong.
At 3:01 PM that day, the maximum instantaneous wind speed was measured at 28.9 m/s in Geonip-dong, Jeju City, and strong winds exceeding 20 m/s continued across Jeju.
In particular, as the typhoon gradually approaches Jeju, damage caused by strong winds is occurring one after another in the province.
That afternoon, a passenger car driving on the road in front of Hallim Nonghyup Gas Station in Hallim-eup, Jeju City, overturned due to a vehicle collision and strong winds.
Also, power lines were cut by strong winds, causing power outages for 898 households in Yeon-dong, Jeju City, and 164 households in Hogun-dong, Seogwipo City, which were then urgently restored.
Signboards were damaged in Nohyeong-dong, Jeju City, and Seogwi-dong, Seogwipo City, and in Seohodong, Seogwipo City, a tree fell and struck a vehicle passing on the road.
As of 2 PM that day, 12 cases of facility damage were reported to the Jeju Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters.
There were 6 cases of damage to signboards, roofs, and windows, and street trees, street lamps, banner stands, and pedestrian traffic lights are falling or shaking due to strong winds.
The Jeju Fire Safety Headquarters is conducting disaster prevention activities by mobilizing 107 personnel and 34 pieces of equipment.
