Rep. Lee Hyung-seok Urges Swift Execution of Disaster Recovery Budget for Special Disaster Areas
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Rep. Lee Hyung-seok (Democratic Party of Korea, Gwangju Buk-gu Eul) has demanded the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to promptly allocate disaster recovery funds to local governments following the declaration of a special disaster area.
At the full meeting of the Administrative Safety Committee on the 1st, Rep. Lee said, "The Ministry of the Interior and Safety declared the areas affected by last month's heavy rain as special disaster zones," adding, "It is fortunate that local governments, which are relatively financially vulnerable, can quickly restore flood damage and prepare support conditions for local residents."
He continued, "The disaster recovery budget was initially scheduled to be allocated on the 3rd of this month, but due to the successive approach of typhoons, it has been delayed, and each local government is currently conducting emergency recovery with its own resources," and argued, "Given the recent flood damage situation, emergency recovery has its limits."
