[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] Another incident occurred in the United States, where large-scale protests erupted after a police shooting of a Black person, in which a Black man was shot and killed by police.
U.S. President Donald Trump visited Kenosha, Wisconsin, where large-scale riots occurred, but concerns are growing that the protest situation could escalate again due to additional shooting deaths.
According to the Associated Press and others on the 1st (local time), two police officers from the LA County Sheriff's Department fatally shot a Black man in Westmont near Los Angeles on the 31st of last month. According to the police, the deceased, Dejuan Kizzee, was riding a bicycle and fled from the police after being caught violating regulations.
During an argument, Kizzee fled, and a sheriff's deputy chased him down, causing a struggle. During this process, a firearm was found among the items Kizzee dropped, and the police reportedly fired about 20 rounds into his back. The Sheriff's Department stated in a press release, "Kizzee was armed and assaulted the officers," and said they are conducting an internal investigation into the incident.
Kizzee's family's attorney, Benjamin Crump, criticized, saying, "Kizzee dropped a bundle of clothes containing a handgun and did not pick it up," and "Instead, the officers fired more than 20 shots at Kizzee's back as he fled." AFP reported that a witness said, "The officers fired after Kizzee turned and ran." However, the Sheriff's Department denied that more than 20 shots were fired.
After the shooting, up to 100 people gathered at the scene to protest for justice, and the family demanded punishment for the officers.
This incident occurred just one week after Jacob Blake, a Black man in Kenosha, Wisconsin, was shot four times in the lower body by a white police officer who fired seven times on the 23rd of last month, resulting in paralysis. Given that anger has not subsided, there is a strong possibility that large-scale protests will spread again.
U.S. media also focused on the fact that another Black man was shot in the back by a white police officer and warned that protests could continue ahead of the November presidential election.
Despite local concerns that his visit could incite protests, President Trump went ahead with his visit to Kenosha. Instead of meeting the victim Blake's family, President Trump focused on inspecting the damage caused by the protests and encouraging the police and National Guard, emphasizing his image as a president who maintains 'law and order.'

Emphasizing law and order, President Trump said, "To stop political violence, we must confront radical ideology," and "We must condemn dangerous anti-police rhetoric." He criticized violent protesters as 'anarchists,' 'rioters,' and 'agitators,' while praising the police responding to the protests, saying, "What you have done is incredible. Truly inspiring." He also expressed strong dissatisfaction with the media, stating, "The media should be ashamed of themselves. They are fanning the flames of the protests."
