Gwanak-gu Launches Full-Scale '365 Safe and Secure Village Nangok Development' Initiative
Total project cost of 965 million KRW invested, contributing to crime prevention and public safety system establishment... Various resident-focused projects including CCTV, security lights, unmanned parcel lockers, and shared emergency fire extinguishing facilities installed
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwanak-gu (District Mayor Park Jun-hee) announced that it is accelerating the '365 Safe and Secure Village Nanggok Creation' project.
The '365 Safe and Secure Village Nanggok Creation' project is one of the Nanggok·Nanhyang Urban Regeneration New Deal pilot projects, aiming to establish a crime prevention and living safety system in the target area as part of urban regeneration efforts.
The district plans to invest a total of 965 million KRW by 2021 (400 million KRW from the national government, 580 million KRW from the city, and 57 million KRW from the district) to carry out various projects annually, including ▲CCTV installation ▲Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) ▲LED security light maintenance ▲Installation of unmanned parcel lockers ▲Installation of communal emergency fire extinguishing facilities.
On the 18th of last month, 16 CCTVs were installed in 16 crime-vulnerable locations, and by the end of the year, the crime prevention design project will be implemented along with replacing over 170 existing security lights with LED security lights.
In 2021, three communal unmanned parcel lockers will be installed in community facilities and parks, and 15 emergency facilities such as communal emergency fire extinguishing systems and automated external defibrillators will be installed to ensure residents' convenience and living safety.
Meanwhile, the Nanggok-dong area is experiencing residential space decline due to aging houses, narrow street environments, and insufficient living infrastructure. Since the cancellation of the reconstruction maintenance (planned) zone in 2014, demands for residential environment improvement have increased, making it a region that requires residents' self-motivation and environmental development to establish a voluntary and self-sustaining urban regeneration foundation.
Accordingly, the district was designated as a Seoul-type urban regeneration activation area in July 2018 for systematic and stable regional development through public support. Subsequently, it applied for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's New Deal project and announced the Nanggok·Nanhyang-dong Urban Regeneration Activation Plan in November 2019.
Additionally, the district is promoting nine pilot projects under the Nanggok·Nanhyang Urban Regeneration New Deal, including support for renovating old houses, operating an urban regeneration field support center, and constructing smart public parking lots, working together with residents to create a better living environment.
