Korea Yakult Provides 'Easy Meal Support for Solitary Death Prevention' to Elderly Living Alone in Cheonan City
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seon-ae] Korea Yakult announced on the 1st that its Chungcheong branch is partnering with Cheonan City to donate 900 ready-to-eat meals for elderly people living alone in the region. This donation was planned to prevent solitary deaths among elderly living alone and to address the issue of meal shortages.
In this regard, Korea Yakult and Cheonan City held a signing ceremony at Cheonan City Hall on the 28th of last month, attended by Choi Min-gyu, head of Korea Yakult’s Chungcheong branch, and Jeon Man-kwon, deputy mayor of Cheonan City, among others.
Under this agreement, Korea Yakult will provide ‘It’s On’ ready-to-eat meal products free of charge for four months starting in August to elderly people living alone in Cheonan City. The products will be delivered by Fresh Managers, who will also check on the well-being of the elderly recipients. The beneficiaries are elderly people living alone in Cheonan City who are recipients of basic livelihood security or belong to the lower-income bracket, totaling 100 individuals. Korea Yakult plans to gradually expand the scope and scale of this support activity starting with this initiative.
Park Sang-don, mayor of Cheonan City, said, “As society changes and single-person households increase, I am grateful that companies are reaching out first to prevent solitary deaths,” adding, “Cheonan City will also strive to develop welfare services for single-person households.”
Choi Min-gyu, head of Korea Yakult’s Chungcheong branch, said, “This sponsorship was planned to resolve social issues such as solitary deaths and meal shortages among elderly people living alone,” and added, “Korea Yakult will continue to expand community-based welfare projects in the Cheonan area, such as elderly care activities and the Good Morning check-in program.”
