Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority Publishes General Cargo Handling Safety Manual
Establishment of Standard Procedures for Hazard Factors and Handling Management during Cargo Handling Operations
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority (President Cha Min-sik, hereinafter referred to as the Authority) announced on the 31st that it has created and published a manual including standard procedures for hazards and handling management that may occur during the general cargo unloading process to unify safety management rules at Gwangyang Port Product Wharf and Scrap Wharf.
The Authority explained that after analyzing safety accidents during cargo unloading by cargo type at ports over the past 10 years, it created a safety manual suited to the field conditions of the Product Wharf and Scrap Wharf, where the accident rate is significantly higher than other wharfs among general cargo handling wharfs.
In particular, it added that a 'Safety Manual Production Council' was formed and operated with direct participation from port workers and stevedores to produce equipment-specific and work-type manuals that fit the actual worksite system.
The unloading safety manual includes ▲ safety work manuals by cargo type ▲ equipment status and safety work manuals by equipment ▲ emergency response procedures at the wharf ▲ manuals that on-site workers can use at all times.
