Korea Workers' Compensation & Welfare Service "Report Industrial Accident Insurance Fraud... Rewards Up to 30 Million KRW"
Operation of September 'Industrial Accident Insurance Fraud Reporting Emphasis Period'
202 Cases of Fraud Detected Last Year... 11.2 Billion KRW Recovered
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] The Korea Workers' Compensation and Welfare Service announced on the 30th that it will operate a "Workers' Compensation Insurance Fraud Reporting Emphasis Period" throughout September to actively respond to fraudulent claims of workers' compensation insurance.
The Service provides various workers' compensation benefits to injured workers and their families when a worker suffers an occupational injury. However, receiving compensation through false or other fraudulent means constitutes fraudulent claims.
Reports of workers' compensation insurance fraud can be made through the Workers' Compensation Fraud Reporting Center (052-704-7474) or the Service's website. The informant's information is strictly kept confidential, and if fraud is confirmed, a reward of up to 30 million KRW may be given depending on the amount improperly received.
The Service has continuously made efforts to strengthen prevention and detection of workers' compensation insurance fraud through planned investigations, establishing cooperation systems with related organizations, and preventive education.
As a result, last year, 202 cases were detected, 11.2 billion KRW was recovered, and 26.8 billion KRW in insurance benefits were prevented from being fraudulently paid.
Kang Soon-hee, Director of the Korea Workers' Compensation and Welfare Service, stated, "Workers' compensation insurance fraud is a serious crime that harms honest injured workers, and we will ensure that offenders are detected and criminally punished by judicial authorities."

He added, "Recently, the types of workers' compensation insurance fraud have become increasingly sophisticated and diverse, making detection difficult through the Service's efforts alone. For the soundness of workers' compensation finances and the protection of honest workers, public interest and active reporting are necessary."
