Female Driver Kidnapped in Hostage Incident: Chinese National Male Arrested and Indicted
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] A man in his 30s of Chinese nationality who kidnapped a female driver and carried out a hostage situation across the Seoul metropolitan area has been brought to trial.
The Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office announced on the 28th that Mr. A was arrested and indicted on charges of robbery and injury, and obstruction of special official duties.
On the morning of the 13th, Mr. A kidnapped a woman, Ms. B (30), whom he did not know, in Seocho-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul, and kept her in his car for about seven hours while demanding ransom from her family. Even after receiving 5 million won as ransom from Ms. B's husband, he did not release her and demanded an additional 15 million won.

When Ms. B's husband reported this to the police, officers from the Gangdong, Seocho, and Songpa Police Stations in Seoul and the Namyangju Police Station in Gyeonggi Province pursued Mr. A and arrested him in flagrante delicto in Wabu-eup, Namyangju City. Ms. B reportedly sustained only abrasions on the back of her hand with no further injuries.
