Choi Dae-jip, President of the Korean Medical Association, "Considering Government Counter-Suit and Transition to Indefinite General Strike" (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Seo So-jeong] Choi Dae-jip, president of the Korean Medical Association, announced on the 28th that he will file a complaint against Park Neung-hoo, Minister of Health and Welfare, for abuse of authority in response to the government's prosecution of 10 residents who failed to comply with the work commencement order.
The Medical Association, which went on strike from the 26th opposing government policies such as the expansion of medical school quotas and the establishment of public medical schools, also hinted at the possibility of transitioning to an indefinite general strike on the last day of the doctors' general strike.
At an emergency press conference held at 11:30 a.m. at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, President Choi stated, "The government has taken harsh measures against young doctors in their late 20s who cannot bear great responsibility," adding, "The prosecution of 10 residents is completely wrong, and we will raise a strong voice against the government's immoral behavior that worsens the situation by causing tremendous anger among all 130,000 doctors."
The Medical Association plans to hold a meeting of the Special Committee for the Fight Against the Four Major Evils in the Medical Community (Beomtu Committee) at 6 p.m. today to discuss the direction of future struggles, including whether to proceed with a third indefinite general strike.
