Hanwha Q CELLS to Build 'Solar Power and ESS' Plant in Portugal
[Asia Economy Reporter Park So-yeon] Hanwha Q CELLS is building a power plant in Portugal that combines solar power with an energy storage system (ESS).
Hanwha Q CELLS announced on the 28th that it secured the rights to a 315MW project in a solar power business bid of approximately 700MW in the Alentejo and Algarve regions of southern Portugal.
The 315MW capacity is equivalent to the annual usage of about 450,000 people based on Korean standards. Hanwha Q CELLS plans to complete the remaining permits and development work before starting construction and completing the power plant in 2024.
Notably, this project is the first in Portugal to combine solar power with ESS, and it is the largest project Hanwha Q CELLS has undertaken in Portugal.
Hanwha Q CELLS has focused on the solar module business so far, but in January of this year, it established a vision to transform into a "total energy solution company."
The solar power and ESS combined power plant is one of the solution businesses, and the company explains that it is expected to expand the market by resolving the output variability of renewable energy.
