According to public broadcaster NHK, as of 8 p.m. on the 27th, 859 new confirmed cases were identified, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 66,475. The death toll rose by 11 to 1,254.
On the same day, 250 new cases were reported in the capital, Tokyo Metropolis, increasing the cumulative confirmed cases to 20,096. The daily number of confirmed cases in Tokyo exceeded 200 for two consecutive days.

NHK added that Tokyo Metropolis plans to shorten the operating hours of restaurants and karaoke rooms in the 23 special wards (ku) within the jurisdiction until 10 p.m. until the 15th of next month.
