Sinan-gun Faces Power Outages and Facility Damage from Typhoon 'Bavi'... No Casualties Reported
Damage to Heuksan Gageodo Breakwater... Accurate Damage Assessment and Emergency Repairs Begin
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Typhoon No. 8 ‘Bavi’ passed through the West Sea, causing power outages and facility damage in Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do.
According to Sinan-gun on the 27th, Typhoon ‘Bavi,’ which passed through the West Sea on the afternoon of the 26th, washed away 200 meters of the breakwater at Heuksan Gageodo.
In particular, a 50-meter retaining wall had collapsed last year due to Typhoon ‘Lingling’ and was under repair, but it collapsed again just before the completion of the construction scheduled for the end of this year, making the completion of the breakwater unlikely.
In Heuksando, Sinan, electricity supply was cut off to Jungtaedo (6 households), Sangtaedo (51 households), and Gageodo 2-ri (4 households) due to this typhoon. Due to the power outage, the automatic observation equipment of the Korea Meteorological Administration nearby could not observe weather information such as wind speed and rainfall.
At the Amtae Odo ferry terminal in Sinan-gun, a 30-meter safety railing was damaged and is currently undergoing emergency repairs. There were 11 damages of various sizes, including a 30-meter railing damage at Gosan Port in Palgeum-myeon and damage to the roof cover of the health center.
A Sinan-gun official said, “We are checking for additional damage on the morning of the 27th, and the wind is still strong around the fish farms, so we cannot approach yet,” adding, “We expect the damage to be less than the strong wind, and we will start an accurate damage survey and emergency repairs immediately.”
