Dongjak-gu Begins Creation of Yongyang Bongjeojeong Historical and Cultural Space
Initiation of September Basic Plan... Reorganization around Yongyang Bongjeojeong including accident stone embankment and promotion of historic cultural plaza creation... Completion expected with opening of Baeknyeon Bridge pedestrian bridge by end of next year, anticipated to serve as a key space in the cultural tourism belt
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) will begin establishing the "Basic Plan for the Creation of Yongyangbongjeojeong Historical and Cultural Space" next month.
Located in the Bondong area at the southern end of Hangang Bridge, Yongyangbongjeojeong is a royal temporary palace where King Jeongjo rested briefly while crossing the Han River during his royal procession. It is a Seoul-designated cultural asset with historical significance.
The district is promoting the creation of a historical and cultural space so that residents and tourists can enjoy cultural heritage tourism and relaxation around Yongyangbongjeojeong. This year, they plan to establish the basic plan and conduct preliminary and excavation surveys, aiming for completion alongside the opening of the Baeknyeondari pedestrian bridge in 2021.
The basic plan will include ▲reorganization around Yongyangbongjeojeong such as installation of Sago-seokdam (stone ponds) ▲conceptualizing an eco-friendly historical and cultural plaza considering the terrain conditions ▲reviewing the economic analysis of the project and its job creation effects.
Additionally, through the "Academic Survey of the Surrounding Area Centered on Noryang Royal Temporary Palace" project, efforts are being accelerated to promote the designation of Yongyangbongjeojeong as a historic site to enhance its cultural heritage value.
Since the 6th local government term, the district has been promoting the development of Yongyangbongjeojeong area as a tourist attraction for Dongjak's future projects.
This year, a natural yard will be created in Yongyangbongjeojeong Neighborhood Park, featuring a habitat forest and adventure play facilities, and by 2022, an observatory offering views of Seoul's nightscape will be installed at the summit.
The Bondong Urban Regeneration New Deal Project, Seoul's first model for a Han River hillside terrain, is also progressing smoothly.
Furthermore, the project plans to link with Seoul City's Baeknyeondari bridge construction and the 5.6km Han River pedestrian network project from Yeouinaru Station to Dongjak Station.
For detailed information on the project status, inquiries can be made to the Dongjak-gu Strategic Projects Division.
