Jeonnam Governor Kim Young-rok Conducts On-site Inspection of Landslide Risk Areas in Preparation for Typhoon 'Bavi'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeonnam Province, conducted an on-site inspection of landslide risk areas as Typhoon No. 8 ‘Bavi’ approached.
According to Jeonnam Province on the 26th, Governor Kim visited Yeoncheon Village in Hampyeong County, which suffered landslide debris damage due to heavy rain during the rainy season, checked the emergency restoration situation, and gave urgent instructions to evacuate residents to safe locations until the typhoon passes.
Typhoon ‘Bavi’ is forecasted to bring strong winds and heavy rain to the Jeonnam area until the 27th, making prior preparation especially critical for regions that experienced landslide damage from the concentrated heavy rains in July and August.
The province urgently issued instructions to each city and county to ensure prior preparation, including ▲strengthening surveillance activities and establishing resident evacuation systems in areas vulnerable to landslides and hillside settlements where human casualties are a concern ▲preventing secondary damage in landslide-affected areas from the recent heavy rains ▲maintaining drainage for mountain solar power facilities in preparation for heavy rain ▲and implementing preventive measures against strong winds and high waves to minimize damage.
Governor Kim said, “Bavi is expected to bring 100 to 300 mm of rain, raising concerns about secondary damage in areas where landslides occurred during the recent heavy rains. Residents in landslide-prone and steep slope areas should evacuate to safe places in advance and refrain from going out once the typhoon’s influence begins.”
