This campaign was launched by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the Marine Safety Practice Headquarters in August after it was found that among 368 deaths along coastal areas such as breakwaters over the past three years, 336 people, accounting for 91.3%, were due to not wearing life jackets.
To participate in the campaign, individuals take a photo or video showing a simple hand gesture of wearing a life jacket and fastening its buckle, then upload it on social networking services (SNS) with the mandatory hashtags '#PleaseWearALifeJacket', '#MarineSafetyPracticeCampaign', and '#MarineSafety'.
Busan Port Authority President Nam Ki-chan joined the campaign after being nominated by Kim Sung-tae, President of the Korea Maritime Rescue Association.
The next participants nominated were Lee Yoon-tae, Chairman of the Busan Port Workers' Union, and Lee Sang-bung, President of the Busan Port Security Corporation.
