Barogo Recruits 5,000 New Riders... "Delivery Demand Surges Due to COVID-19"
Delivery Orders Increased by 160% Last Weekend Compared to Last Year Due to Heatwave and COVID-19 Resurgence
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] As the demand for delivery has surged significantly due to the resurgence of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), Barogo has launched a large-scale rider recruitment drive. Barogo (CEO Lee Taekwon), a startup operating a short-distance logistics IT platform, announced on the 26th that it will recruit about 5,000 riders to keep pace with the rapidly increasing delivery demand.
According to Barogo, the number of deliveries performed on Sunday, the 23rd, reached a record high of 552,000. This figure represents a 158% increase compared to the same period last year. The recent surge in delivery demand is analyzed to be due to the continued heatwave following the rainy season and the resurgence of COVID-19. Accordingly, the average daily earnings of riders using the Barogo platform also increased by about 25% during the same period. However, concerns about workload overload have arisen as the increase in the number of riders has not kept pace with the growth in delivery demand. As of August 23 this year, the number of Barogo riders who completed at least one delivery was 13,200, approximately double compared to last year.

In response, Barogo has decided to undertake a large-scale rider recruitment to maintain a high level of delivery service while simultaneously preventing rider overwork. Considering the current upward trend in delivery demand, they plan to hire more than 5,000 riders. Applicants can apply for rider recruitment through the Barogo website or regional hubs. A Barogo official stated, "This large-scale rider recruitment will also help distribute the workload concentrated on existing riders."
