Grossi, IAEA Director General: "External Pressure Exists... Acting as Independently as Possible"
Revealed at Joint Press Conference with Iran
IEAE and Iran Agree to Work Towards Agreement on Iran Nuclear Safety Measures
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), stated that there is pressure on the IAEA from external sources.
On the 25th (local time), at a joint press conference in Tehran with Ali Akbar Salehi, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran and Vice President, Director General Grossi said, "While I assure that the IAEA is not influenced by external forces, it is true that there is pressure intertwined with international politics."
He added, "The IAEA has maintained an independent stance to reject external pressure as much as possible and to prevent any country from interfering in the relationship between a specific country and the IAEA," and confirmed that "the relationship between the IAEA and Iran is also not influenced by external forces."
Although this can be seen as a statement explaining the independence of the IAEA, it attracted attention as the head of the IAEA admitted the existence of external pressure.
Director General Grossi stated via social media, "I met with Director Salehi and we joined forces to reach an agreement related to the IAEA's safeguards."
