Gwangju Seo-gu, Thorough Safety Inspections in Preparation for Typhoon 'Bavi' Approaching North
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Seo Daeseok) is thoroughly conducting safety inspections in preparation for Typhoon No. 8 ‘Bavi’.
According to Seo-gu on the 25th, Typhoon Bavi is expected to move northward around 6 PM on the 26th, approximately 80 km west of Mokpo, and is anticipated to affect Gwangju from the afternoon of the 26th until early morning on the 27th.
In particular, this typhoon is expected to bring strong winds, raising concerns about safety accidents caused by the high winds.
Accordingly, Seo-gu has rechecked various disaster response manuals and conducted thorough inspections of disaster prevention facilities and vulnerable areas as part of an emergency safety inspection.
Additionally, safety inspections are being carried out in vulnerable areas due to the large number of flood-affected zones within the district caused by heavy rain from the 7th to the 9th.
The emergency recovery status of flooded areas and landslide-prone zones is being rechecked, and the drainage status of stormwater pipes in frequently flooded areas is being inspected.
Furthermore, the securing status of facilities vulnerable to strong winds, such as shaded rest areas and screening clinics, is also being checked.
On the same day, Seo-gu plans to hold a typhoon preparedness situation assessment meeting chaired by Seo Daeseok, the Seo-gu mayor, with participation from 13 collaborative departments to review the measures taken.
In accordance with the typhoon weather advisory, the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters will be activated, and emergency Level 1 duty will be implemented.
A Seo-gu official stated, “Significant damage has already occurred due to the recent heavy rain,” and added, “We will thoroughly respond to prevent further damage.”
