841 Confirmed Cases at Sarang Jeil Church... 112 'n-th Generation Infections' Unrelated to Church (Update)
On the afternoon of the 23rd, church officials and legal representatives held a press conference in front of Sarang Jeil Church in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, urging the government to withdraw the ban on worship services and condemning Minister of Health and Welfare Park Neung-hoo.
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] The number of confirmed cases related to Sarang Jeil Church in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, infected with the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), reached 841 on the 23rd. Patients infected through additional transmission at workplaces and other places, although not directly related to the church, also increased to 112.
According to the Central Disease Control Headquarters, as of 12 PM on the day, the number of confirmed cases related to the church increased by 45 compared to the previous day. Among the cumulative 841 patients, Seoul has the highest number with 499 cases. Including Seoul, the metropolitan area accounts for 792 cases, while in non-metropolitan areas, Chungnam has the highest number with 17 cases. By age group, those in their 60s are the most with 229 cases, followed by those in their 50s with 190, and those in their 70s with 108. There are 86 cases in their 40s, 76 in their 30s, and 71 in their 20s.
It has been identified that 168 workplaces, facilities, and institutions were visited by confirmed cases from the church. Although not directly related, such as not attending the church, 'n-th generation infections' confirmed through additional transmission at workplaces and other places were counted at 21 locations with 112 cases. Compared to the previous day, the number of facilities and institutions remained the same, but the number of confirmed cases increased by 4.
The number of patients related to the Gwanghwamun rally on the 15th increased by 32 from the previous day, bringing the cumulative total to 136. This does not include patients related to Sarang Jeil Church. Among the police, one additional confirmed case was reported, increasing the number of police confirmed cases related to the rally to 5.
Additional patients continue to emerge in outbreak clusters within Seoul. Seven more cases were confirmed related to Yoido Full Gospel Church, raising the cumulative total to 35. In the Gangnam-gu Gold Train cluster, 10 more cases were confirmed, bringing the total to 100. In the Seongbuk-gu theater group 'San' cluster, 5 additional confirmed cases were reported, increasing the cumulative number to 31.
