Collaboration Shines Between Jeonbuk and Namwon Volunteer Centers at Flood Recovery Site
Operation of meal service and laundry vehicles, in cooperation with the 35th Division
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Nosik] The collaboration between the Jeonbuk Volunteer Center and the Namwon Volunteer Center is shining at the flood recovery sites scarred by the recent heavy rains.
According to the city on the 20th, the heavy rains from the 7th to the 9th caused victims and extensive property damage, including flooding of homes and farmland.
In response, the Jeonbuk Volunteer Center focused on support tasks for flood recovery in coordination with the Namwon Volunteer Center's Integrated Volunteer Support Group.
From the 8th, when the heavy rain damage occurred, meals were provided to victims using the Korean Red Cross's mobile meal vehicles. Starting on the 12th, additional mobile meal vehicles from Iksan, Wanju, and Jeonju Volunteer Centers, along with Gwangmyeong City's Sarang Jjajang vehicle, Jeonju Briquette Bank's mobile meal vehicle, and Monk Deogeum's Jjajang vehicle, were deployed to handle meals for victims and volunteers.
Through this effort, about 21 mobile meal vehicles were mobilized over approximately 12 days in Geumji-myeon and Songdong-myeon, deploying 1,671 volunteers and providing meals to 16,176 people.
Additionally, active efforts were made to wash flood-contaminated blankets and clothing. The Namwon City and Korean Red Cross mobile laundry vehicles were supplemented by mobile laundry vehicles from Jeonbuk and Jinan Volunteer Centers, with 368 volunteers participating over 10 days to assist victims with laundry.
The collaboration with the 35th Infantry Division stood out in the laundry service. While Jeonbuk and Namwon Volunteer Centers and the Red Cross operated mobile laundry vehicles, the 35th Infantry Division collected laundry and delivered it after washing, facilitating the laundry service.
The 35th Infantry Division also provided great support to victims by including letters of consolation and delivering dried laundry right to their doorsteps.
At the Namwon Volunteer Center, the Integrated Volunteer Support Group managed the reception and deployment of volunteer personnel, while the Jeonbuk Volunteer Center oversaw volunteer centers across the province, making role-sharing through collaboration a great help in the recovery work.
Yang Kyungnim, head of the Namwon Volunteer Center, said, “We thank the volunteers who came to Namwon for flood recovery,” adding, “We will work harder to ensure that Namwon citizens can return to their daily lives through swift recovery.”
