Prime Minister Jeong: "We Will Provide Full Support Until Safe Therapeutics and Vaccines Are Developed and Secured"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun stated on the 20th, "We will provide all possible support, including budget and regulatory improvements, until safe treatments and vaccines are developed and secured."
On the same day, Prime Minister Chung held the 15th Thursday Dialogue at the Prime Minister's Official Residence (Samcheongdang) in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, under the theme "Prospects and Policy Directions for the Development and Securing of Treatments and Vaccines for COVID-19."
Prime Minister Chung emphasized, "The concern over a large-scale spread of COVID-19 has become a reality due to some individuals' violations of quarantine rules recently. Since it is expected to take several months or more to distribute safe treatments and vaccines, minimizing local transmission is currently the most effective method, and we will continue stricter and more thorough quarantine measures."
During this Thursday Dialogue, the current development status domestically and abroad was reviewed, and the progress of the government's two-track strategy, which simultaneously pursues domestic development and securing overseas products, was checked.
Additionally, difficulties related to treatment and vaccine development faced by various companies were heard, and necessary support measures from the government side were discussed.
The meeting was attended by Professor Myungdon Oh from Seoul National University College of Medicine, Professor Baeklin Sung from Yonsei University Department of Biotechnology, Chairman Jungjin Seo of Celltrion, CEO Jaeyong Ahn of SK Bioscience, President Heejung Ji of Genexine, Director Hyunsang Mook of the Pan-Government New Drug Development Project Group, and Minister Neunghoo Park of the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
