Appetizing Autumn... Homeplus Sells Fresh Flower Crabs for 39,900 KRW per Box
Mass Sale of Seasonal Foods Like Freshly Harvested Rice and Jeoneo Until the 26th
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Homeplus announced on the 20th that it will secure a large quantity of fresh domestic seasonal foods such as blue crabs, new rice, and gizzard shad, which are in season this autumn, and offer them at affordable prices at nationwide stores and online malls until the 26th.
First, starting at midnight on the 20th, the fishing ban period (June 21 to August 20) will be lifted, and the first harvested autumn blue crabs of the year will be delivered directly from the production site every dawn. Among large supermarkets nationwide, Homeplus will begin selling them the fastest from 2 p.m. on the 21st at 1,490 KRW per 100g and 39,900 KRW per 3kg box. However, the Seogwipo store will start sales from the 23rd.
At this time of year, blue crabs account for 25% of seafood sales in large supermarkets, making them a representative autumn food. To ensure stable supply and price competitiveness, Homeplus buyers have stayed at the production sites throughout the season, expanding contracts with local fishermen and dedicated logistics vehicles. Through this, they plan to deliver the largest volume among large supermarkets, about 350 tons, directly from the fishing ports to stores daily until October. In particular, the crabs caught overnight are immediately sorted at Anheung Port in Chungnam and Gyeokpo Port in Jeonbuk, stunned in cold water below 5℃, then packed in sawdust similar to sand to be delivered in the freshest condition with minimal handling.
Additionally, Homeplus has secured 100 tons of this year’s first harvested new rice and offers it at 9,990 KRW per 3kg. The rice was grown in Naju, where sunlight is abundant and the climate is mild, allowing for relatively early harvest compared to other regions, and prices were lowered through large-scale pre-contracts. Besides this, they also sell autumn fresh gizzard shad with knife cuts, branded pork belly and neck meat, high-sugar-content king flat peaches, Shine Muscat grapes, and greenhouse tangerines. They continue promotional events to support farms affected by recent heavy rains. Together with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, they offer a 20% discount on four types of domestic fruits and vegetables for My Homeplus members, including young radish greens, young cabbage, green chili peppers, and soft, crunchy, yellow peaches.
In cooperation with the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, to support inland aquaculture farms, they offer a 20% discount on three types of seafood for My Homeplus members, featuring HACCP-certified aged trout sashimi, trout sashimi noodles, and traditional spicy catfish stew.
