Jokuk Files 300 Million Won Compensation Lawsuit Against Gaseyeon... "Serious Personal Rights Infringement"
[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] Former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk filed a lawsuit seeking approximately 300 million KRW in damages against the YouTube channel 'Garosero Research Institute' (Gaseyeon) and its cast members on the 19th.
Cho's legal representative announced on the afternoon of the 19th that they had filed a damages lawsuit at the Seoul Central District Court against Gaseyeon and its operators, including lawyer Kang Yong-seok, former MBC reporter Kim Se-ui, and Kim Yong-ho, demanding 300 million KRW in compensation.
The lawyer stated, "Since the nomination of Cho Kuk as Minister of Justice, Gaseyeon and the three cast members have broadcast numerous YouTube shows using insulting expressions and images not only about former Minister Cho but also about his children, spreading clear falsehoods," adding, "Former Minister Cho and his children have suffered immense pain, and the resulting damage is very severe."
He continued, "Although Cho's children are not public figures holding official positions, they have been widely socially stigmatized due to the content of the YouTube broadcasts, suffering damages that go beyond defamation to serious violations of personal dignity."
Previously, lawyer Kang and others stated in a YouTube broadcast in August last year that "Former Minister Cho Kuk operated a private equity fund that received funding from the Chinese Communist Party," "Cho Kuk promoted a particular actress to enable her to appear in various works and commercials," and "Cho Kuk's daughter drives a red foreign car."
