Chungnam Invests 4.7 Trillion Won in 'New Deal Project' to Create Over 40,000 Jobs
[Asia Economy (Naepo) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Chungnam Province has drawn a blueprint to create over 40,000 jobs through the promotion of the ‘Chungnam-type New Deal Project.’ A total of 4.78 trillion KRW is expected to be invested in the New Deal project by 2025.
On the 19th, the province announced the ‘Chungnam-type New Deal Comprehensive Plan’ with these details. The comprehensive plan aims to secure future growth engines for the Chungnam economy in the post-COVID-19 era and lead the Korean New Deal based on digital and green new deals and social safety net reinforcement projects.
The promotion tasks consist of 85 projects in three major sectors: ▲Digital New Deal ▲Green New Deal ▲Safety Net Reinforcement.
First, the province will invest 846.4 billion KRW in 37 projects under the Digital New Deal sector. Major tasks include ▲establishing a Chungnam-type online integrated education platform ▲building a Chungnam VR·AR production hub center ▲fostering a global game industry hub ▲expanding mobile healthcare for chronic disease patients and others ▲establishing intelligent farm systems ▲building intelligent transportation system ▲constructing smart flood management systems, among others.
The Green New Deal sector will invest a total project cost of 2.9696 trillion KRW to focus on ▲restoration of the Bunamho estuary ▲creation of intelligent sewage treatment plants and urban flooding and odor management projects ▲promotion of electric vehicles including passenger cars, buses, and trucks ▲prioritizing replacement of public vehicles with electric and hydrogen vehicles ▲establishing a Chungnam hydrogen city ▲building a coal phase-out foundation ▲creating urban wind path forests ▲children’s safe green forests, and 31 other projects.
In the Safety Net Reinforcement sector, 17 projects will be promoted, including ▲establishing a job matching platform for middle-aged and older adults ▲building an integrated IoT safety management system for construction sites ▲supporting artists through the operation of an art savings bank, with a total project cost of 966.2 billion KRW.
In particular, the province has announced 10 representative projects of the Chungnam-type New Deal: ▲establishing an IT cluster in Naepo New City ▲pilot operation of telecommuting in public institutions ▲building and operating the Chungnam Big Data Hub Platform ▲constructing smart medical and care infrastructure ▲creating the Seocheon Brownfield ‘Smart International Environmental Theme Special Zone’ ▲establishing a new growth hub for the Garorim Bay marine ecosystem ▲supporting the transition of the regional energy industry ▲creating a Green Startup Town ▲the Chungnam-type Digital New Deal job ‘Youth Growth’ project ▲establishing and operating the Chungnam-type Untact Vocational Training Center.
To effectively promote the Chungnam-type New Deal project, the Deputy Governor for Administration will take charge of the Green New Deal sector, and the Deputy Governor for Culture and Sports will lead the Digital New Deal and Safety Net Reinforcement sectors, regularly checking the progress of each task.
Additionally, the Director of Planning and Coordination, the Director of the Future Industry Bureau, and the Director of the Climate and Environment Bureau will oversee practical operations, continuously discovering tasks in each field and promoting national policy adoption.
