[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] The Korea Federation of Small and Medium Business (Chairman Kim Ki-moon) announced on the 19th that it held the 'SME Digital Transformation Policy Forum' at the 9th Meeting Room of the National Assembly Members' Office Building, together with Kang Byung-won, head of the Digital Transformation TF of the Democratic Party's Digital New Deal Subcommittee, and lawmakers Shin Jeong-hoon, Kim Kyung-man, and Ko Min-jung. This forum was organized to discuss policy directions and derive tasks focusing on Smart Green Industrial Complexes and Smart Factories among the 10 representative projects announced in the Korean New Deal comprehensive plan by the government.
Jo Yong-joo, senior researcher at the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, addressed the detailed promotion directions of smart factories in his keynote presentation on smart factory promotion policies. He explained the overall overview of changes after Industry 4.0 and the current status of smart factory policy implementation, then suggested future smart factory promotion strategies.
After the keynote presentation, Park Min-won, director of the Gyeongnam Changwon Smart Industrial Complex, and Jung Cheol-young, CEO of Dongsungsa, presented cases on the projects promoted by the Gyeongnam Changwon Smart Industrial Complex and the effects of building smart factories. Subsequently, Professor Joo Young-seop of Korea University chaired the discussion, which included Kim Il-ho, head of the SME Smart Manufacturing Innovation Planning Group at the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, Kim Yong-chae, Regional Economic Policy Officer at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Professor Hwang Joon-seok of Seoul National University, and Jo Yong-jun, vice chairman of the Korea Federation of Small and Medium Business. They offered various opinions to derive policy directions and tasks for Smart Green Industrial Complexes and smart factories.
Kim Kyung-man, a lawmaker of the Democratic Party and co-host of the forum, emphasized, "Now that the vision of the Korean New Deal has been established, it is time for the National Assembly and the government to set promotion plans and communicate with the public to lead participation," and stated, "We will play a role to ensure that Smart Green Industrial Complexes and smart factories become successful models leading our economy to a leading economy."

Seo Seung-won, full-time vice chairman of the Korea Federation of Small and Medium Business, said, "SMEs have made great efforts to respond to the wave of the 4th Industrial Revolution through smart factories, but in the COVID-19 era, synergy should be created not only through individual SME implementations but also on a larger scale such as by industry and industrial complexes," and added, "The Federation will also continuously strive to provide many opinions on the Korean New Deal promoted by the government and to create an environment where active participation in change is possible."
