[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Samsung Electronics is expanding its policy of upgrading to the 3rd generation Android operating system from existing flagship products to mid-range phones and tablets.
On the 18th, Samsung Electronics announced that all future Galaxy S, Note, and Z series models, as well as some A series smartphones and the Galaxy Tab S series, will support the 3rd generation Android OS upgrade.
The currently applicable models include ▲Galaxy S10 and S20 series ▲Galaxy Note 10 and 20 series ▲Galaxy Z Fold2, Flip, Fold ▲Galaxy A51, Quantum, A90 among smartphones, and among tablets, ▲Galaxy Tab S7, S6, and S6 Lite series.
Previously, Samsung Electronics announced a plan for three updates targeting flagship products at the Galaxy Unpacked event, and now plans to expand this to the Galaxy A series and tablets. Samsung stated, "Products not included in this 3rd generation upgrade will continue to receive Android OS upgrades considering hardware specifications and optimal user experience."
The Galaxy S20, released last February with Android 10, supports a total of three Android OS upgrades starting from Android 11. Samsung plans to begin the Android 11 upgrade for the Galaxy S20, the first among Galaxy mobile devices released this year, and then expand to other models.
Samsung Electronics conducts monthly or quarterly regular Android security updates for Galaxy mobile devices. Through software updates, new features of the latest flagship smartphones are supported for use on existing smartphones.
