Gangnam-gu Special Judicial Police Eradicate Illegal Prostitution and Loan Business Flyers
Criminal Penalties and Fines Based on Quantity for Entertainment Venues in Gangnam and Seolleung Station Areas... Enhanced Crackdown Intensified
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jeong Soon-gyun) has been granted special judicial police (hereinafter referred to as special judicial police) authority to eradicate illegal flyers related to prostitution and loan sharking, and has been conducting focused inspections and crackdowns on distributors since this month.
This measure comes in response to the recent increase in sexually explicit illegal flyers such as those related to prostitution, which have created a harmful environment for youth, as well as the rise in flyers advertising illegal loan companies’ ‘COVID-19 debt consolidation refinancing loans.’ Employees from the district office’s Urban Maintenance Team, who hold special judicial police authority, are conducting joint crackdowns starting around the Gangnam and Seolleung Station areas, where entertainment establishments are densely located.
In particular, if caught on site, offenders will face criminal penalties, immediate suspension of the phone numbers listed on the flyers, and administrative fines depending on the quantity of flyers distributed, among other strong administrative measures.
Additionally, to eradicate illegal flyers that spoil the cityscape, the district has introduced an ‘automatic warning call system’ (commonly known as bomb calls), a computer program that continuously makes calls to notify violations of the Outdoor Advertising Act, which has been in operation since early this year.
