Due to the Resurgence of COVID-19... SKT, KT, and Others Return to Remote Work One After Another
[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Jo] As the local transmission of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) resurges, major ICT companies such as SK Telecom and KT are returning to remote work.
SK Telecom announced on the 17th that it will implement remote work for all employees until the 23rd due to the transition to social distancing level 2. SK Telecom explained, "Through proactive remote work, we will minimize face-to-face activities and participate in overcoming the COVID-19 situation," adding that during the remote work period, all meetings and tasks will be conducted non-face-to-face using digital work tools such as 'Meethus' and 'Teams."
Additionally, employees were urged to "completely reschedule any face-to-face activities such as gatherings and appointments. During the remote work period, minimize outings and absolutely avoid visiting enclosed and crowded places," and "refrain from using public transportation during unavoidable commutes and work-related travel." This is the third time SK Telecom has decided on remote work due to the impact of COVID-19. Remote work was previously implemented from February 25 to April 5 and from May 14 to 24 this year.
KT also decided on a remote work policy for six days from the 18th to the 23rd targeting employees in the metropolitan area and Busan. Employees in Seoul, Gyeonggi, Incheon, and Busan, except for essential personnel, will all switch to remote work. In other regions, remote work will be implemented for pregnant women, health-vulnerable individuals, and employees with childcare responsibilities, and group activities such as training and meetings with more than 20 people and unnecessary business trips will be prohibited.
KT stated, "We will prioritize the health of our employees and make every effort to prevent infectious diseases, while ensuring that customer services are not disrupted."
Some IT and gaming companies in Bundang and Pangyo have also decided on remote work. Kakao, which had returned to normal work mode earlier this month, resumed indefinite remote work from the 14th. Naver started a rotating work system last week where employees come to the office only two days a week and work remotely for the remaining three days. Nexon also decided to restart the '3+2' work system from today, where employees come to the office three days a week and work remotely for two days.
