Kim Byung-ki "Requesting the National Intelligence Service to Report Reform Plans to the National Assembly"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Kim Byung-gi, the secretary of the National Assembly Intelligence Committee and a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated on the 17th that he hopes Park Ji-won, the Director of the National Intelligence Service (NIS), will "swiftly form a task force (TF) for the amendment and reform of the National Intelligence Service Act and officially present its position to the National Assembly, the representative body of the people."
On the same day, Kim said on Facebook, "Since being elected as a member of the National Assembly in 2016, I have never even received proper contact from current or former NIS employees regarding the amendment plans of the National Intelligence Service Act."
Kim pointed out, "For the past 30 years, whenever there have been calls for reform, the NIS has consistently avoided reform with a passive attitude, saying 'we will handle it ourselves,' or misleadingly acting as if reforms were being made. As a result, even the reforms that were implemented have fizzled out, weakening the agency's capabilities and turning it into an institution subject to criticism."
