[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) has completed the 'Seongbukdong-gil Expansion Project,' implemented as an urban planning facility project.
This project, with a budget of 21.3 billion KRW, began with the first section in January 2009 (Ujeong Park, Seongbukdong 276-3) and was completed over about 10 years, with the fifth section (Seongbukdong 266-1) finalized this July.
Through this, the road width was expanded from the existing 12 meters to as wide as 30 meters.
The district especially focused on improving a pedestrian-centered safe road environment by expanding sidewalks (width from 1.2m to 2.5~5.0m), enhancing a safe and comfortable walking environment for nearby residents and tourists.
In connection with the sidewalk expansion, to resolve the shortage of parking spaces in Seongbukdong, public parking lots and resident-priority parking spaces (39 spots) were created, securing insufficient nearby parking spaces. This facilitated easier access for tourists visiting attractions and restaurants within the Seongbukdong historical and cultural district, such as Manhae Han Yong-un Simujang, Hanyangdoseong Fortress Trail, and Gilsangsa, contributing to the establishment of Seongbukdong's tourism infrastructure.

With the completion of the road expansion project over about 10 years, Seongbuk-gu has resolved a long-standing wish of local residents and greatly improved the surrounding environment of Seongbukdong. It is expected that Seongbukdong, a representative tourist destination, will be further revitalized as a tourist spot that everyone wants to visit again.
