Since establishing a sisterhood tie in 2004, Seongdong-gu and Jincheon-gun have actively promoted various exchanges such as helping with rural labor. In February, during the COVID-19 crisis, Seongdong-gu supported Jincheon-gun with 1,350 hand sanitizers, and Jincheon-gun sent 170 bags of 10kg rice to Seongdong-gu. They have mutually supported relief supplies whenever crises occurred, strengthening their friendly relations.
Due to the recent heavy rains, Jincheon-gun has 28 disaster victims in 12 households, with 52 buildings and 141.9 hectares of farmland submerged, causing damages exceeding 5.6 billion KRW. Currently, they have requested an additional designation as a special disaster area.
Following the heavy rain, Jincheon-gun is suffering from the double hardship of flood recovery and heatwaves. The district has identified the necessary supplies for the affected area to ensure rapid recovery.
Accordingly, 2,000 bottles of bottled water, 1,000 cup noodles, 1,000 towels, 1,200 pairs of half-coated gloves, and 5,000 masks?items urgently needed at the recovery site?were directly delivered. Depending on the situation on site, Seongdong-gu volunteers will also participate in the recovery efforts.
Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “I sincerely hope for the swift recovery of our sister city Jincheon-gun and wish that these relief supplies will help the residents return to their daily lives, even if just a little.”
