6 COVID-19 Cases Reported in Gwangju in One Day... Concerns Over Resurgence

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency registered seven cases numbered Gwangju 222 to 228. This is because case 222 in Gwangju was initially confirmed positive on the 14th by a private entrusted institution, then underwent a secondary test at the Health and Environment Research Institute, and was finally confirmed positive, leading to registration as a confirmed case.
According to Gwangju Metropolitan City on the 16th, following five confirmed cases related to entertainment bars the previous day, a man in his 40s, identified as Mr. A, was additionally confirmed positive and classified as Gwangju case 228.
Mr. A, who resides in Hoban Hillheim, Juwol-dong, Nam-gu, was identified as a contact of case 219. He is currently showing symptoms such as fever and is receiving isolated treatment at Bitgoeul Chonnam National University Hospital.
Case 219 in Gwangju, whose initial infection route was unclear, is presumed to have been infected by the virus through air conditioning airflow at a Starbucks (Yadang Station branch) in Paju, Gyeonggi Province. The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters officially announced that due to the wide range and large number of people involved, the initial source of infection cannot be identified.
Earlier, five people in Gwangju, including four women in their 20s and one man in his 40s, were confirmed positive for COVID-19.
All were related to entertainment bars. Gwangju City has closed the relevant entertainment bar, and if other entertainment bars visited by the staff are identified, they will also be closed, with consideration of claims for damages underway.
Meanwhile, since the start of the second wave of COVID-19 in the Gwangju area on the 27th of last month, a total of 195 cases have been reported.
By age group, there are 5 under 10 years old, 9 in their teens, 12 in their 20s, 15 in their 30s, 31 in their 40s, 43 in their 50s, 46 in their 60s, 21 in their 70s, 8 in their 80s, and 5 in their 90s.
