Jeonju City Partners with LH to Establish Citizen Housing Safety Net
Signing of Business Agreement to Strengthen Integrated Residential Welfare Services
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hong Jaehee] Jeonju City in Jeollabuk-do is launching a demand-centered customized housing provision to protect the basic housing rights of citizens who suddenly lose their homes or find themselves in housing blind spots.
On the 14th, Jeonju City and Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) signed a "Business Agreement to Strengthen Jeonju-type Integrated Housing Welfare Services" with about 20 participants including Mayor Kim Seung-su, President Byun Chang-heum, and Chief Regional Regeneration Planner Jo Jun-bae to establish a detailed housing safety net for vulnerable groups.
Through this agreement, the city and LH decided to provide 10 emergency rotational rental houses for citizens who lose their homes due to sudden reasons such as natural disasters, unpaid monthly rent, or forced eviction.
The first to move into the emergency rotational rental houses will be three households: two disaster victims affected by recent heavy rains and one household whose home was completely destroyed by a fire in Palbok-dong.
Additionally, 91 regionally tailored rental houses will be supplied in Jeonju, including 11 for multi-child families, 20 for young cultural artists, and 60 for senior safety housing.
To this end, the city and LH are currently designing a total of 52 units, including 18 youth artist houses and 12 senior safety houses in Palbok-dong, and 12 senior safety houses in Seoseohak-dong, while searching for suitable locations with convenient transportation and proximity to schools for multi-child families.
Furthermore, citizens living in goshiwons, motels, inns, and jjokbang (small rooms) will be supported to move into public rental housing equipped with basic household appliances such as washing machines and refrigerators, with assistance for moving expenses and rent.
The city will also operate the Jeonju Housing Welfare Council, which includes the Housing Welfare Center, Community Social Security Council, LH Housing Welfare Business Department, and My Home Center, to establish a housing safety net.
The Housing Welfare Council will systematically establish annual business activity plans, develop housing welfare policies, and strive to prepare integrated services that promote housing stability.
In addition, the city and LH are carrying out various housing welfare cooperation projects such as ▲housing benefit support projects ▲support for moving into public rental housing including purchased rental, permanent rental, and jeonse rental housing ▲rental deposit support for livelihood and medical benefit recipients ▲repair cost support for Hyosung default rental housing ▲and happy housing in Palbok-dong and Deokjin-dong.
Byun Chang-heum, President of Korea Land and Housing Corporation, said, "We will develop and promote Jeonju-type housing welfare policies through a one-stop housing service platform linking the capabilities of Jeonju City, LH, and private organizations," adding, "We hope that Jeonju City will serve as a model case and that integrated services will spread nationwide."
