Woo Won-sik "United Party Opposing Real Estate Tax Increase While Talking About Basic Income Is Nonsense"
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] Woo Won-sik, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, expressed welcome for the new platform policy of the United Future Party, but argued that "it is nonsense to oppose raising property holding taxes while talking about basic income, and they should apologize." He urged sincerity.
On the 14th, Woo appeared on KBS Radio's 'Kim Kyung-rae's Strongest Current Affairs' and said, "It is truly welcome that the United Future Party has broken away from its previously extreme right-wing biased actions and emphasized a fair economy and respect for labor," adding, "Listing the May 18 Democratic Movement, April 19, Bu-Ma Uprising, and June 10 in the platform could be a great opportunity to break the chain of ideological conflicts and lay a cornerstone for national unity."
He continued, "The first point was preparing for the 4th Industrial Revolution through basic income," and pointed out, "However, to implement basic income, some of the land unearned income must be reclaimed for public purposes by strengthening land holding taxes to secure funding."
He then criticized, "When the three real estate-related laws were passed last time, there was huge opposition just because of a slight increase in holding taxes. Everyone walked out. So, talking about basic income while opposing this is somewhat nonsense."
Woo also said, "While talking about economic democratization, they have opposed the Distribution Industry Development Act, which aims to regulate distribution conglomerates. It is nonsense to talk about economic democratization while blocking the Distribution Industry Development Act."
