Bundang Branch, Living Specialty Hall... Pyeongtaek Branch, Sports Specialty Hall
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] AK Plaza announced on the 14th that it has carried out a large-scale fall/winter (FW) renovation at its Bundang and Pyeongtaek branches in the post-COVID-19 era.
With the recent spread of social distancing culture, home-call lifestyles have increased, leading to a surge in consumption of interior and home office supplies. Additionally, there is a growing number of customers purchasing training wear that combines fashion and functionality to meet the demand for home training aimed at recovering from insufficient physical activity.
In response to this trend, AK Plaza Bundang transformed its existing home appliances, furniture, and daily necessities sections into a ‘Living Specialty Hall.’ This renovation, the first in about five years, focused on turning the space into an area where young families in the commercial district can shop, experience, and stay. Bundang expanded its store size from the existing 5th floor to the 6th floor and introduced new brands not previously available in the area. On the 5th floor, the German high-end bedding brand ‘Hugo Boss,’ luxury ceramic table brand ‘Club Mesa,’ and functional bedding and goods select shop ‘Sesa Edition’ were introduced for the first time in the commercial district. New brands such as the ergonomic furniture brand ‘Barriere·Flexlux’ and the fabric specialty brand with unique colors ‘Origo’ also opened stores. On the 6th floor, ‘Ace’ was renewed into a premium store featuring the first-ever experience center in the commercial district, and Simmons also opened the largest store in the area. Additionally, the first domestic store of ‘Allermanspinks,’ born from a technical partnership between bedding brand Allermans and UK premium bed brand ‘Harrison,’ was opened, and the healthcare specialty store ‘Bodyfriend’ was expanded and renovated. Furthermore, the ‘Samsung Premium Store’ and ‘LG Electronics’ established some of the largest stores in the commercial district.
AK Plaza Pyeongtaek also renamed its sports store to ‘Sports Specialty Hall’ to meet the demand for fashion sportswear, relocating from the 5th floor to the more accessible 3rd floor and expanding the number of brands and store area. The category was subdivided into athleisure, young sports, and sports shoes, and the brands were selected to suit the commercial district. The Sports Specialty Hall was renovated into a large store capable of showcasing a diverse product lineup, including ‘Nike Sports’ and ‘Adidas Stadium’ (scheduled to open in September). Popular stores among the MZ generation, such as ‘Andar,’ famous for leggings, as well as ‘Lacoste Sports,’ ‘Kodak Apparel,’ and ‘Umbro,’ newly opened.
