Community, Related Organizations, and Volunteers Unite for Rapid Damage Recovery Efforts
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Chunsu] Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do is accelerating support for flood damage recovery sites.
According to Gokseong-gun on the 12th, record-breaking heavy rain with an average of 429mm and a maximum of 555mm (Okgwa-myeon) poured over three days from the 7th to the 10th, causing numerous casualties and property damage.
Gokseong-gun confirmed that approximately 60 billion KRW in damages were incurred by the 11th due to this heavy rain.
Damage was surveyed in 2,326 cases involving public and private facilities, including road damage, flooding of houses and greenhouses, water facilities, and landslides. The amount of damage is expected to increase through further investigations.
Accordingly, all Gokseong-gun employees have been intensifying support at flood sites by working emergency shifts over the weekend from the 8th to the 9th and canceling summer vacations until today, the 14th. Gunsoo Yoo Geun-gi is also visiting affected villages in each eup and myeon to encourage residents who suffered damage.
Although all residents are facing difficult circumstances, heartwarming cases continue to emerge despite the challenging conditions.
On the 10th, the Jeonnam Volunteer Center delivered hand sanitizers, masks, toothbrushes, toilet paper, and towels. Samsung Electronics Service Co., Ltd. is dispatching 12 employees until the 14th to provide free appliance inspection services in the flooded areas of Sinri and Daepyeong-ri in Gokseong-eup. The Suwon Volunteer Center also visited Gokseong-gun to deliver 105 boxes of daily necessities including toilet paper, rice, bottled water, and cup noodles.
Higher-level institutions and local related organizations are also extending helping hands for damage recovery. Jeonnam Provincial Office, the 31st Division, and Gokseong Police Station are supporting manpower to assist flood recovery efforts, and the Damyang Fire Station has used fire trucks to supply village domestic and drinking water.
