Democratic Party's Kwon Chil-seung Proposes Forced Relocation Law for Pro-Japanese Collaborators' National Cemetery... "Setting History Right"
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] On the 12th, Kwon Chil-seung, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, announced that he has taken the lead in proposing a revision to the "National Cemetery Establishment and Operation Act" to exclude pro-Japanese anti-national collaborators from being interred in national cemeteries and to enforce their forced relocation.
According to data received from the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, Rep. Kwon confirmed that there are currently 12 pro-Japanese anti-national collaborators interred in national cemeteries. These individuals were identified by the Special Committee for the Investigation of Pro-Japanese Anti-National Acts under the Special Act on the Investigation of Anti-National Acts during the Japanese Colonial Period.
Besides the late General Baek Seon-yeop, the others include Kim Baek-il, Shin Tae-young, Lee Jong-chan, Baek Nak-jun, Lee Eung-jun, Shin Eung-gyun, Kim Hong-jun, Kim Seok-beom, Song Seok-ha, Baek Hong-seok, and Shin Hyun-jun, totaling 11 individuals.
Based on the "Dictionary of Pro-Japanese Collaborators" published by the Institute for Research in Collaborationist Activities, it is said that 68 pro-Japanese collaborators are interred.
Rep. Kwon stated, "Even if pro-Japanese acts are clearly proven, there are no relevant provisions under current law to refuse interment or to relocate pro-Japanese anti-national collaborators, which has been consistently pointed out as a factor undermining the honor of national cemeteries."
