WHO "Hospitals Damaged and Bed Shortage Due to Beirut Explosion in Lebanon"
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunbyeol Kim] The World Health Organization (WHO) announced on the 6th (local time) that hospitals in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, were damaged due to the explosion disaster, resulting in a shortage of beds to treat the injured.
The WHO Lebanon office reported that three hospitals in Beirut were unable to function properly due to the explosion that occurred on the 4th, and two others were partially damaged. As a result, there is a shortage of beds to treat injured and burn patients in Beirut, and patients are being transferred across Lebanon from the southern city of Sidon to the northern city of Tripoli.
Additionally, WHO stated that 20 tons of WHO medical supplies for treating the injured arrived in Lebanon the previous afternoon. The WHO Lebanon office is working closely with health authorities and hospitals.

Earlier, around 6 p.m. on the 4th, two large explosions occurred at the Beirut port, killing at least 135 people and injuring about 5,000. The Lebanese government estimated that a large-scale explosion was caused by ammonium nitrate, a flammable substance that had been stored in the port warehouse for a long time.
