[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) is promoting the ‘2020 Gwanak-gu Neighbor Making Support Project’ to revitalize village communities by fostering communication and harmony among residents, solving local issues, and creating a community culture.
The Neighbor Making Support Project is a program that supports residents in discovering and nurturing groups that independently address various needs in daily life such as village, welfare, environment, and education.
The purpose is for neighbors to voluntarily identify and discuss local agendas, expand the village community local resource network, and create a resident-centered village ecosystem.
Resident groups or organizations of three or more people living and residing in the 21 neighborhoods of Gwanak-gu are eligible to apply, provided they have no prior experience participating in village community public projects.
Proposals related to village community projects are freely accepted, and selected projects will receive funding ranging from 1 million KRW to a maximum of 2 million KRW per group per neighborhood through a review process.
Additionally, to ensure smooth progress of the selected projects, step-by-step education and consulting such as ▲ project planning consulting ▲ implementation support ▲ accounting will be conducted through the Gwanak Village Autonomy Center.
The ‘Gwanak-gu Neighbor Making Support Project’ started in 2013, and last year, approximately 28 million KRW in project funds were provided to a total of 23 resident groups.
Especially this year, to broaden the participation of diverse residents, the village community neighbor making support budget has been significantly expanded to 105 million KRW, allowing support for 3 to 4 groups per neighborhood.
The application period is until the 14th of this month, and required documents such as project proposals and plans can be submitted by visiting each neighborhood community center in person or via the responsible staff’s email.
The district plans to conduct preliminary screening for applicants and finalize the selection of resident groups to be supported by the end of August.
Detailed information can be found on the district’s website announcement, and inquiries and consultations about the project are available at the Gwanak Village Autonomy Center.
