Nexon Reports Operating Profit of 302.5 Billion KRW in 2Q on New Hit Titles... Earnings Surprise (Update)
'MapleStory' and 'Kart Rush Plus' Achieve Simultaneous Success on PC and Mobile
'Baram-ui Nara: Yeon' and 'Dungeon & Fighter Mobile' to Join Q3 Earnings
[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-gyu Lee] Nexon announced on the 6th that its Q2 sales increased by 20% year-on-year to 730.1 billion KRW, and operating profit rose by 106% year-on-year to 302.5 billion KRW. This is the highest figure ever recorded for Q2 performance.
Nexon achieved record-breaking Q2 sales thanks to the simultaneous success of major steady-selling PC games such as 'MapleStory,' 'Dungeon & Fighter (DNF),' and 'Sudden Attack,' as well as mobile games like 'V4' and 'KartRider Rush+.'
Marking its 17th anniversary this year, MapleStory introduced the 'Hotel Maple' content in April, offering VIP services and various benefits, which received great responses from users. With user-friendly management, it grew 151% year-on-year in the Korean region, and recorded high growth rates of 173% and 217% in North America & Europe and Asia & South America regions, respectively.
DNF and Sudden Attack also contributed to the Q2 results by showing growth of 49% and 103% year-on-year in the Korean region, respectively.
While V4, launched domestically last November, has established a long-term hit system, the successive successes of new mobile games also stood out. KartRider Rush+, which started global service in May, surpassed 15 million global cumulative users within two months of its release. Gaining widespread popularity as a casual racing genre, it secured a top position in mobile game sales rankings after launch.
Thanks to the success of V4 and new mobile titles, Nexon's Q2 mobile game sales rose 24% year-on-year, marking the fourth consecutive quarter of growth.
Owen Mahoney, CEO of Nexon Japan, said, "As a result of active investment and resource allocation based on selection and concentration on key intellectual properties (IPs), we were able to achieve strong performance in the first half of the year. With a more solid financial structure based on record achievements, we will continue both quantitative and qualitative growth in the second half."
