Lotte Duty Free, 40th Anniversary Project Wins Two Red Dot Awards
Heritage Book and Emblem Main Award Winner
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Lotte Duty Free announced on the 5th that it has consecutively won awards at major international design awards, including two Red Dot Awards, as part of its 40th anniversary project.
On the 3rd (local time in Germany), Lotte Duty Free received the 'Winner' award in both the Publishing & Print Media category of Brand & Communication Design and the Brand Design & Identity category at the Red Dot Design Award for its Heritage Book and emblem created to commemorate its 40th anniversary this year.
Lotte Duty Free produced a brand heritage book that departs from the traditional chronological narrative style, conveying the brand’s history, authenticity, and future vision with artistic sensibility. The heritage book is divided into a Heritage part, focusing on brand value content, and a History part, consisting of 40 years of history and current status. It includes various contents such as illustrations depicting iconic products over the decades and the process of products being worn and delivered to customers, as well as interviews with partner companies like luxury brands discussing Lotte Duty Free.
The 40th anniversary emblem of Lotte Duty Free was created in collaboration with Steven Wilson, a famous British pop artist. It expresses the characteristics of duty-free distribution achieved through travel and the desire for continuous growth, symbolized by 40 different balloons. Lotte Duty Free applied the 40th anniversary emblem to its 2020 desk calendar and shopping bags, and based on the main emblem, it has produced seasonal key visuals and various items utilizing the emblem.
Notably, this award was selected through fierce competition among over 7,000 entries from more than 50 countries worldwide. The Red Dot Design Award, along with Germany’s iF Design Award and the United States’ IDEA Design Award, is considered one of the world’s top three design awards and is recognized as the most prestigious award in the design field since its establishment in 1955.
