[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Bong-ju] An incident occurred in Metro Manila, Philippines, where two armed robbers broke into a currency exchange operated by Koreans and stole a large sum of money.
According to local sources and the Korean Embassy in the Philippines on the 3rd, a robbery took place around 11 a.m. local time on the 1st at a currency exchange in Manila run by a Korean expatriate in his late 40s.
Two robbers armed with pistols pointed a pistol at the head of a Korean employee in his mid-40s and stole a large amount of cash from the safe before fleeing.
At the time, the Korean owner was not in the office, and although there was one more Korean acquaintance present, no casualties occurred.
The suspects took the closed-circuit television (CCTV) storage device from the office before fleeing and reportedly fired one shot at the glass window to intimidate the victims.
In response, the Korean Embassy immediately dispatched the consular officer in charge of the case to the scene. The Korean Desk (Korean police officers dispatched locally to handle Korean-related incidents) is also cooperating with the local police.
