Prosecutors Indict Yoon Joon-byung of the Democratic Party for 'Violation of the Public Official Election Act'
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] The prosecution has indicted Yoon Jun-byeong, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act for sending New Year's greeting cards before running in the general election and distributing business cards in front of a church entrance.
According to Yoon's camp and authorities on the 3rd, the Jeonju District Prosecutors' Office Jeongeup Branch indicted Yoon on the 27th of last month.
The prosecution is also known to have brought to trial associates of Yoon who participated in the election campaign on the same charges.
Yoon is accused of sending a large number of New Year's greeting cards to party members and local figures in December last year and distributing business cards near the church entrance.
The greeting cards were reportedly in the form of a party member greeting letter informing about the resignation of the Jeongeup-Gochang regional committee chairperson to register as a primary election candidate.
The Public Official Election Act prohibits anyone from distributing or scattering greeting cards or New Year's cards with the purpose of influencing an election, and forbids soliciting support in religious facilities, hospitals, theaters, and the like.
